With my love of music growing and my recovery process in full flow, my family found out about When You Wish Upon A Star; a charity who grant wishes to children living with life-threatening illnesses.
On my behalf, my parents applied for an Apple Macbook. A short while later I received a visit at home from Maggie and Nicola who work for the charity, and they explained that my wish had been granted. I was so excited I don’t think I have ever removed wrapping paper so fast; and there it was -my new laptop!
Even though it was only a laptop it meant the world to me. It accelerated through my journey; allowing me to experiment with different software packages, develop my DJ skills and music knowledge but most importantly, it helped me with my education, in particular making learning easier. I also started to understand my learning style and over a period time develop techniques, which expanded my ability to learn.
When You Wish Upon A Star also provided a magical trip to Lapland. Before the trip, the charity asked me if I would like to go on Heart radio to help with the fundraising and of course I said yes. I will always remember how special the charity and radio team made me feel and it was amazing to see how a radio station operates with my passion for dj’ing growing!
In 2010 I delivered a talk on behalf of When You Wish Upon A Star; they were the chosen organization for an event at Derby Assembly Rooms for the regional Army Cadets who were celebrating their 100th Birthday. The talk was really well-received and continued to build my confidence. I cannot thank When You Wish Upon A Star enough for helping me and my family make magical memories and maintain a positive attitude in even the hardest of times.
